About the UW-Stout Physics Department Weather Station

The Physics Department Weather Station is a Davis Weather Monitor II mounted on top of Jarvis Hall.

An anemometer and vane are at the top of the station. They collect data about wind speed and direction.

The tipping bucket collects data about rain. When the raised half of the bucket fills with water, the weight of the water causes it to tip. This empties the water and the station records a measurement. 

The station has sensors for temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. The temperature sensor is housed in a radiation shield for protection from solar radiation and radiated or reflected heat.

The data gathered by the station is transmitted to a PC running Virtual Weather Station software.
This software records and graphs station data and uploads it to the Web.
