Physics Department Meeting
February 28, 2003

Members present: Mark Larchez (chair), Ellen Carlson, Robert Foley, Paul Henkiel, Laura McCullough, Jim Pejsa, Jim Rada, John Rompala, Alan Scott
M. Larchez called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.
1. Announcement: The duplicating machine has arrived and is housed on the third floor. Students will be trained on its use. Duplicator should be used for anything over 20 copies.
2. The minutes from the February 7, 2003 meeting were approved. The minutes from the February 14, 2003 meeting were approved with a minor correction.
3. Faculty Senate Report: Senate representative R. Foley had nothing to report.
4. New Course Proposal from A. Scott: The proposal for a new course for educators was presented to the Dean’s Council and the council made recommendations. A. Scott is making the change to remove the general education designation. The course will be 2 credits. The department approved the course proposal.
5. Lab Equipment Difficulties: There have been occasional computer crashes in Room 121. A log will be started to keep track of which computers are having trouble.
6. AAPT National Meeting in Madison: The national meeting is in Madison in early August. Abstract deadline is April 6th.
7. Budget: The department discussed the budget crisis and impacts on the department.
