Minutes for the Physics Department
Meeting, 08/26/02, Jarvis
Hall SW 103I
Mark Larchez, Department
Chair, called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.
Members
attending: Mark Larchez (chair), Bob Foley,
Paul Henkiel,
Laura McCullough, Jim Pejsa,
John Rompala, Alan Scott, Ellen Carlson
1. Minutes of the April 5, 2002 and the May 3, 2002 meetings were distributed. Jim Pejsa
moved and Alan Scott seconded that the minutes
be approved. The motion passed and
the minutes were approved. The minutes
will be available on the Physics Departments Homepage. The Physics Department
Meetings will normally be scheduled on Fridays at 9:05
a.m.
2. Paul Henkiel distributed Laboratory Schedules and
they were discussed by the Department.
3. Mark Larchez
pointed out that the Dean expects 310 student credit hours per staff for the
Sciences. There was discussion that this
was too high due to the large number of laboratory hours taught and the fact
that the laboratory hours are only rated as 1/2 lecture hours. The Sciences with laboratories and discussion
sections have traditionally been at lower student credit hours than lecture
only disciplines.
4. Ellen will be at the Job Fair this Friday to hire
students for the Physics Department office and open laboratory needs.
5. Department Members were asked to recommend students who
would make good Physics Tutors for the Open Laboratory Hours.
6. Faculty and Staff
members were asked to provide a list of accomplishments to Chair, beginning in
November for Academic Staff members and beginning in April for Faculty Members.
7. Jim
Pejsa reported that the Weather Station is not working
properly and will need repair. There was
agreement among the department members that the Weather Station was important
and should be repaired.
8. Mark
Larchez reported that the Travel, Equipment/Supplies, and
Student Aid budgets were approximately the same as the previous year.
9. The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Robert J. Foley
