UW-Stout Physics Department Meeting Minutes

Members present: Mark Larchez (chair), Paul Henkiel, Jo Hopp, Laura McCullough, Jim Pejsa, John Rompala, Alan Scott, Ellen Carlson
 

Meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m.

 

1. Hiring

• Tools need to be approved by Nov. 5.

• Tools will be distributed by Laura for Wed. 10/10/07 meeting.

• Ads should get out today.

• Need to look for temp replacement for Spring 08 semester.

 

2. Budget

• Approx. $2,000 left in budget plus $500 per individual.

• Motion to purchase a Xerox color laser printer for $850 plus 3 yrs maintenance cost passed (McCullough / Hopp).

• Laura will submit special request for Access to Learning funds for 48 clicker system, approx. $2,000.

• Oct. 19 is deadline for submitting request for Access to Learning funds for 2008-09 school year.

• Special course fee needed for Astronomy and 211 courses.

• Travel - Motion to fund the following amounts for travel passed (Scott / McCullough):

  • $100 each to Laura and Jo for Women in Science meeting.

  • $225 each to Mark and Alan for WAPT meeting in Milwaukee.

  • $850 to John for American Meteorological Society meeting in New Orleans. John will be presenting a paper.

 

3. Jarvis SW Remodeling

• Advised Chuck Bomar that RO water is needed in one lab only.

• Members should look through cabinetry catalogs and note preferences. Give any input to Laura by next Fri., 10/12/07.

• Hot water should be included in all labs.

 

4. Labs

Need to buy more digital scales. Will have Casey look up pricing on both 2,000 g and 200 g scales.
