Minutes for the Physics Department Meeting, 10/18/02, Jarvis Hall SW 103I

Mark Larchez, Department Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:25 a.m.

Members attending: Mark Larchez (chair), Bob Foley, Paul Henkiel,
Laura McCullough, Jim Pejsa, John Rompala, Alan Scott, Ellen Carlson

1.  Minutes of the Aug 26, 2002 meeting were distributed.  After an approval motion and second, the minutes were approved.

2. Mark Larchez pointed out that the Library Book Request (with monies already set aside) was due the end of October, and asked that faculty submit request to him.

3.  Robert Foley, Department Rep. to Faculty Senate made a short report mentioning that there was little attendance at Summer Commencement and it was being considered to drop this commencement.

4. It was pointed out that there were some non-functioning computers in the laboratories.  Paul Henkiel has been doing a very good job at finding replacements and repairing the bad computers.  It is expected that the laboratories will be at 100% shortly.

5. Travel budget was discussed.  Beginning with approximately $1600 for travel at the start of the fiscal year, spent and committed funds amount to approximately $1200, which leaves $400 to be spent mainly on the WAPT meeting.

6. Equipment and Supply monies were discussed.   It was decided to repair or, if necessary, replace the weather Station.  This may cost anywhere from $100 to $1000 dollars. Additionally, each faculty/staff member was given $200 to spend on needed supplies and resources.  Additional requests for equipment and supplies should be given to the Chair, Mark Larchez.  It also was decided that the majority of requests should be finished by the end of the 1st  semester/beginning of 2nd semester.  Paul Henkiel was to generate a list of needed laboratory supplies and if funding is adequate these were to be ordered shortly.

7. The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Robert J. Foley
