Physics Department Meeting

November 5, 2004

Members present: Mark Larchez (chair), Ellen Carlson, Robert Foley, Paul Henkiel, Laura McCullough, Jim Pejsa, Alan Scott, John Rompala

M. Larchez called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.

1. Announcements

- We have $5,000 learning access funds remaining to spend. Members should submit requests to Ellen before Christmas.

- Proposed moving $3,000 of learning access funds from supplies to student help. Decided to ask for additional $3,000 rather than reallocating

- Submit names of potential tutors for next semester by Dec. 1

- Summer School; there is talk about going to a flat rate compensation, some members expressed opposition

- General Ed Objectives; we need to show how we are incorporating the Gen Ed objectives into our courses – need to submit to J. Furst-Bowe by end of semester

2. Minutes of the 10/01/04 department meeting were approved

5. Hiring

Motion passed to elect Laura McCullough as chair of hiring committee. Some details of position description were discussed.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
