UW-Stout Physics Department Meeting Minutes

Members present: Mark Larchez (chair), Paul Henkiel, Jo Hopp, Laura McCullough, Jim Pejsa, John Rompala, Alan Scott

This will be a special expedited meeting to work on particular items.

Meeting was called to order at 7a.m.

New Business

Building renovation and construction proceeded to be discussed as a continuation from the meeting on November 16, 2007.

Shop

1. Alan presented a preliminary sketch of the cabinetry in the shop area. Pull-out shelves were discussed for some of the cabinetry. The red tool box will be kept in the research area. It was recommended that slotted brackets be installed for adjustable shelving for above the South work bench. Drawers were recommended instead of shelving in the bottom right of the South-end cabinetry.

Office Area

1. Laura presented some modifications to the administrative assistant area. This matter was discussed. It was generally agreed upon that the work area be shifted to the left side of the office area. And the administrative assistant’s area be closed off with a solid lower half and glass upper half for the wall facing towards the entrance. The office door should not open into the hallway.

2. It was agreed that the department focus on the big picture such as walls and doors. The tutor area was discussed. Jo recommended white board on all the walls that aren’t glass.

Research Area

1. Discussion began on where to place the GCMS. It was agreed upon that this instrument be placed in the center area for maximum flexibility and access. The large research room only needs 10 tables and 12 chairs. The walls in the research area looked good.

2. Meeting was adjourned until 7am the next day.

Meeting adjourned 7:55 a.m.
