Physics Department Meeting
December 20, 2004

Members present: Mark Larchez (chair), Ellen Carlson, Paul Henkiel, Laura McCullough, Jim Pejsa, Alan Scott, John Rompala

M. Larchez called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m.

1. Announcements
a) Summer school – course offerings need to bring in 3x instructional costs; we are tentatively planning on offering Meteorology for summer 2005
b) Fall 2005 schedule – will possibly cancel Univ Phys I and replace with astronomy or geology. Will decide in January.
c) Budget
-Will meet costs of operating GCM
-$500 is earmarked for each dept. member
-Proposals for spending Learning Access funds needed by end of January
d) Science Ed concentration – Approved by program committee; we will support if resources are provided
e) Open lab tutors – we will need tutors for spring; forward info on any possible candidates to Ellen

2. Other
Gen Ed assessment - Mark will send out form

3. Minutes of the 12/10/04 department meeting were approved

4. Hiring
a) Screening will begin mid February or later
b) Motion passed to approve Position Description with the Dean's suggested changes
c) Advertisement of Job Announcement approved
d) Tool 5 approved as corrected
e) Tools 1, 2 & 4 approved

The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
